Redemption Church exists to glorify Jesus Christ by making disciples in South Alabama, America, and the World. We do this by Engaging Lostness, Making Disciples and Deploying Leaders.
What we need to know is that there is nothing in this crisis that should prohibit us from reaching this goal, even while in the midst of the storm. The times we find ourselves in are truly unprecedented. There are many ways to describe them. What is undeniable is that this is a culture-altering event which requires our serious attention and our clear communication. There is real fear and concern all around us. We are monitoring this situation from day to day and seeking to make the wise decision each day. We cannot know the future, but Jesus makes it plain that we trust Him in this day. The last thing we want to do is worry and be anxious about tomorrow. This is a moment to rediscover and to share our hope in the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
1 Peter 3:15, "But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect,"
Out of our love for people and out of respect for our Civil and Medical Authorities who have asked us to cancel large group meetings and only meet in small groups of more than ten people, we are taking the following actions:
For the next 8 weeks, or until further notice, we will have on-line worship experiences on Sunday morning.
For the next 8 weeks, or until further notice, we will not have Grow Groups of Small Groups on our campuses or in homes.
All scheduled special events will be canceled unless a digital way to gather can be organized by our team.
This is an amazing set of circumstances and an amazing opportunity for the modern church to become like the early church. The Church has just gone "First Century." We will discover what this means together. We have an opportunity to remember or realize for the first time ever that the church is not a building but a people.
This crisis helps us rediscover that our great power is not our leaders, location. or even our influence...it is our people. You are all the ministers of the Gospel of Jesus Christ in our home, neighborhood, work and school. Your connection with real life and real people is our mission field. So let me challenge you over the next 8 weeks to be the church scattered all over Mobile - North, West and wherever you may live.
OUR MINISTRY PLAN:
We will GATHER TOGETHER online once a week on Sunday to worship and hear God’s Word. In your homes with family or others you invite.
We will GROW TOGETHER as disciples. Our Grow Groups will be able to connect online, in group forums, and conference calls for their bible studies and prayer together.
We will GET TOGETHER in a digital connection to pray, focus on God’s Word and prayer each week day.
We will GO TOGETHER in an ongoing encouragement to reach out, minister to others and be God’s voice to the stranger, neighbors, the vulnerable who are around us. We will remind each other about our ONE and our mission to love them and serve them in this season. In this time of great distress, there are great Gospel opportunities are all around us.
It is critical that we do not allow this crisis to isolate us from each other, from the needy around us, or from the Lord. We need each other and we are far better together than we are apart. If there was ever a time that proves that we were made for each other it is now.
